| Motion to Re-open KCMSD School Desegregation Case |
The Plaintiff Schoolchildren, the Kansas City School District, and the Teachers' Union have jointly asked U.S. District Court Judge Dean Whipple to re-open the school desegregation case, alleging that the State of Missouri had reneged on the court- approved terms by which it was dismissed from the case. The dispute has to do with deseg funds the State paid to the school district that have been set aside to pay off by 2014 the capital improvement bonds ordered as a part of the deseg remedial plan. In 2005 the State of Missouri began efforts to seize some of those funds and transfer them to area charter schools.
